Project Focus: Updated front-of-house
Newton Free Library serves the city of Newton, Massachusetts from its Neo-Georgian main building on Homer Street. It is one of the busiest library systems in the state with close to two million items circulated per year.
As part of a renovation project, the library sought to upgrade the service desk in their main reading room and were inspired by the clean lines, sturdy construction and colour scheme of the YAKETY YAK desks they saw installed at Hartford Public Library.
The Library Director and staff worked with Paul White, Director of Design, to select a YAKETY YAK 305 Radial Counter and 306 Radial Counter. The 300 Series’ modular design gave them the flexibility to create a custom configuration, enabling them to combine counters with support modules to form a continuous curved desk. They applied the library’s own branded vinyl decals across the upper front panels — a detail that provides a cohesive and polished look to the counters.
The worktop and bag shelves are in Natural Oak, which provides a fresh contrast against the dark interior and a stainless steel kicker adds a high-end finishing touch. Michelle and the team at Newton Free Library are ‘loving the new desks!’ and we are so pleased to have had the opportunity to support the team in serving their community for years to come.
