The community of Gore is thrilled to have a spacious new library, completed earlier this year and designed by McCulloch Architects, Invercargill. The opening of the library marks the end of two years’ construction, and four years of the library operating from temporary premises.
With resources now spread across two floors, the new library not only offers a plethora of books, visitors can now enjoy a separate meeting room, a research room, booth seating, spaces for youth, a dedicated children’s activity room and outdoor patio areas to sit and read, chat, or simply watch the world go by.
There are more meeting and function spaces in the Council’s new community rooms adjoining the library. The library is also linked to the Council’s main office building, which was completely renovated a few years ago.
The new library provides attractive and purposeful spaces to study, learn and connect.
Needless to say, it was imperative new customer service desks reflected the same by being welcoming and interactive, while contributing to a memorable library experience.
After researching the Yakety Yak range and working with Paul White, Yakety Yak Furniture Director of Design, Gore Library Manager, Lorraine Weston-Webb was confident that YAKETY YAK 202 Desks, from the 200 Series of dynamic service desks would be the ideal fit for the new library.
Yakety Yak Furniture suppled two YAKETY YAK 202 Desks for the library’s front of house customer service area. These are designed in left-hand and right-hand orientations and with a shared central cash module.
The library has one desk set permanently at accessible (seated) height, which Lorraine says is well used by children and adults who prefer to sit. “We have a chair there that we can easily slide out of the way for wheelchair users.
“We can still adjust the height to suit the individual staff member and if we want to change things in the future, we have the versatility of swapping the desk positions.”
The colour scheme ties in with the architect’s pallet, including Eucalyptus Ash timber veneer worktops and frontages, adding warmth to the grey décor.
The 202 Desk design with seated to standing height adjustability is ergonomically responsive and more than achieves the library’s requirements on meeting accessibility compliance.
Lorraine says: “We love the desks. The new desk setup is working perfectly. We have them positioned centrally near the entrance, so it is the most visible piece of furniture as people enter.
