East Coast Bays Library chooses versatile YAKETY YAK pods

East Coast Bays Library is a community library located in North Auckland and forms part of the Auckland Libraries network, encompassing 56 branches.

Natasha Hallam, Library Manager, contacted Paul White Director of Design at YAKETY YAK Furniture, to discuss pod options suitable for the replacement of a traditional counter, as part of a wider library refurbishment.

Natasha chose several pod designs from our YAKETY YAK 100 Series to encourage a more open and free flowing model, and a move away from the large desk that created a barrier between customers and staff. The minimalist, height adjustable pods, encourage a friendly customer exchange, providing touchpoints in tandem with the library’s staff roving philosophy.

The new pods are hard to miss with their tough, hard wearing solid vinyl worktops and bright blue barrels standing out on the neutral carpet and complementing the warm timber ceiling above.

Three YAKETY YAK pods were deployed, each a different size to suit the particular location and activity. Pods were teamed with Support Modules providing extra storage and layout.

Our 100 Cash Module was chosen to accommodate the cash register and EFTPOS terminal, and our 100 Support Caddy provides extra desktop space with handy storage beneath. Pod desktops were fitted with ATDEC Articulated Monitor arms for the ease of sharing information.

Natasha says, “Although the pods have taken a while to get used to (they are very different from the large front counter we previously had), both staff and customers are finding that the ability to get one on one at a smaller workspace has been beneficial, especially for requests and demonstrating functions or computer help.  The ability to work alongside customers where they can easily see the computer screen has really added to our customer service.”
