The University of California San Diego (UC San Diego) is one of the world’s leading public research universities, located in La Jolla, California. The library building was renamed Geisel Library in honor of Audrey and Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss) in 1995, for the generous contributions they have made to the library and their devotion to improving literacy.
The library, originally designed in the late 1960’s by William Pereira is an eight story, concrete structure sited at the head of a canyon near the center of the campus. The lower two stories form a pedestal for the sixth story, stepped tower that has become a visual symbol for Geisel Library.
The University’s culture of collaboration is dedicated to ensuring students have the opportunity to become ‘change-makers’.
YAKETY YAK Furniture was thrilled to be contacted by Keith Langford, Spaces Specialist at the Geisel Library, to provide interactive help desks for their service hub. Finding them ideal for the job, Keith selected our YAKETY YAK 206 Desks teamed with our Stand Alone Storage Modules.
Our YAKETY YAK 206 Desk is compact and height adjustable, featuring soft, organic curves and a designated meeting end. With a minimum footprint and maximum features, its friendly, bean-shaped form is designed specifically for open library and welcoming, customer service environments. Adding our Stand-Alone Storage Module provides extra storage and serves to define the staff member’s zone.
Keith says, “The styling and flexibility of the height adjustability is what first drew us to the product. The different custom options and great customer service sealed the deal for us. All of the staff and patrons at the Library love the new YAKETY YAK Desks for the Service Hub”.
